Crew safe after towboat sinks near Olmsted Locks and Dam

(PULASKI COUNTY, Ill.) — The U.S. Coast Guard was contacted to help crewmembers aboard a sinking towboat on Sunday near the near Olmsted Locks and Dam, KFVS News reported.

The Coast Guard got the call at 8:38 p.m. to respond to the vessel on the Ohio River at mile marker 963. According to the Coast Guard, three crew were aboard the unidentified towboat, which was taking on water. They were rescued by a crew from the locks and dam before the vessel sank.

On Monday, a crew from Okie Moore Salvage was scheduled to use side-scan sonar to locate the sunken vessel so it can be removed from the waterway.
