Costa Concordia captain appeals conviction

(GROSSETO, Italy) — Francesco Schettino, the captain of Costa Concordia, has appealed his manslaughter conviction in the fatal capsizing of the cruise ship in 2012, The Guardian reported. Schettino was sentenced in February 2015 to 16 years and one month in prison after a judge ruled his recklessness caused the ship to run aground and capsize off the Tuscan island of Giglio. Schettino said he has been made the solitary scapegoat for the incident that killed 32 people.
