Containership strikes San Francisco Bay Bridge

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA — November 7, 2007) Cosco Busan, an 810-foot-long containership, hit the one of the supports of the Bay Bridge spanning San Francisco Bay on Nov. 7. The ship was outbound from Oakland and was navigating in heavy fog at 0830 when the accident occurred.

The impact ripped a hole in the side of the ship, which spilled about 8,000 gallons of fuel into the bay.
