Congress again ponders Coast Guard inspection of fishing boats

(SEATTLE) — Members of Congress are again pushing for stricter safety requirements for fishing vessels, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper reported. The recent Alaska Ranger disaster has highlighted the lobbying successes of fish companies over the years in avoiding Coast Guard inspections. A current bill would require Coast Guard inspections on many fishing boats beginning in 2018.
