Commercial traffic making a comeback on the Erie Canal

(LITTLE FALLS, N.Y.) — More and more commercial mariners are using the Erie Canal again, the New York Times reported. Commercial shipments have risen to 42 this season from just 15 during the 2007 season. High fuel prices are prompting shippers to use cheaper canal barges to transport steel and power-plant equipment.
