(NORFOLK, Va.) — The Coast Guard has disposed of 41 lighthouses and plans to auction a dozen more in 2008, the USA Today newspaper reported. The lighthouses have been rendered obsolete by ships’ global positioning systems. The structures are being sold to private buyers who submit a plan to preserve them.
