Coast Guard suspends search for towboat crewman in Louisiana

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a person in the water in the Lower Mississippi River from mile marker 164 to mile marker 110 near Gramercy, La., on Monday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the tug Miss Courtney that a crewmember had gone missing. He was last seen at approximately 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

Involved in the search were a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter air crew; a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crew; a Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot response boat-small crew; and a Port of South Louisiana Port Authority responder vessel.

The search lasted approximately 15 hours and the total area searched was approximately 136 square miles.

The crewmember is Hispanic and in his early 30s wearing dark clothing. 

Involved in the search are Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-56 Dolphin Helicopter air crew; Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crew; Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot response boat-small crew; Port Authority motor vessel Responder.
