Coast Guard medevacs burned freighter crewman

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(BOSTON) — A Coast Guard Station Castle Hill crew conducted a medevac for a 48-year-old crewmember of the motor vessel Cougar Ace about nine miles south of Newport, R.I., on Thursday.

At approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, the crew of the 654-foot cargo ship Cougar Ace notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England that a crewmember had suffered an electrical burn to his right hand.

A Station Castle Hill 45-foot response boat-medium crew launched and safely brought the injured crewman aboard. He was then transported to EMS personnel. He was taken by ambulance to Newport Hospital in Newport, R.I.

His condition is unknown.
