(STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.) — U.S. Coast Guard officials are investigating a fire Tuesday morning on the 90-foot tugboat Sassafras in waters off New York City. According to the Staten Island Advance newspaper, the 8-year-old vessel was underway near the St. George Terminal in Staten Island when the fire occurred at about 0920. Sources told the paper the fire likely began in the engine room of the 3,000-hp tug operated by Vane Brothers of Baltimore. There were no injuries.
