Coast Guard halts cargo ship after finding master allegedly drunk

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(SEATTLE) — The Coast Guard Captain of the Port for Puget Sound, Wash., has issued an order requiring the cargo vessel STX Daisy to remain at anchor in Port Angeles, Wash., Wednesday.

 

The Coast Guard conducted a routine boarding of the vessel in the Strait of Juan de Fuca during early Wednesday morning and found that the vessel’s master showed signs of intoxication.
The STX Daisy, a 587-foot Panamanian flagged vessel, was en route Olympia, Wash., from Qingdao, China, to load timber.
The U. S. Attorney’s office is investigating the incident for evidence of a possible violation of U. S. law.
