The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:
(PADUCAH, Ky.) — The U.S. Coast Guard closed a portion of the Ohio River due to construction on Lock and Dam 52 on Wednesday.
The Ohio River is closed to all vessel traffic at Lock 52, mile marker 939, near Paducah, Ky. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun raising the wickets on the dam.
The Coast Guard urges mariners to monitor VHF-FM Channels 16 and 22. Mariners can also contact the lockmaster at 618-564-3151 for information about the closure.
