Coast Guard budget crunch getting close to breaking point

(WASHINGTON) — The Coast Guard will urge Congress to provide more funding as its fleet ages and duties expand, National Defense magazine reported. The Obama Administration may propose insufficient funds for the Coast Guard, which need to replace and repair old ships and infrastructure and has been assigned more and more security duties, while shipping traffic increases in the Arctic. The administration may halt still-preliminary plans for the Offshore Patrol Cutter.
