Coast Guard airlifts burn victim from containership (with VIDEO)

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.) — The Coast Guard medevaced a 28-year-old man Saturday from a containership 20 miles east of Virginia Beach, Va.

Sector Hampton Roads watch standers received a report at 10:20 a.m. that a man aboard the Maersk Santana containership suffered burns on his arms and legs.

At  11:16 a.m., a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City launched to medevac the injured man. The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 11:39 a.m. and transferred the man to the helicopter.

The helicopter crew arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk at 12:26 p.m., where the man was transferred to awaiting EMS personnel.

The patient was last reported in stable condition.
