Coal carrier's hull damaged in B.C. grounding

(PRINCE RUPERT, British Columbia) — The bulk carrier Amakusa Island, which ran aground Monday night off Ridley Island, sustained damage to its hull and a timetable for repairs is uncertain, The Northern View reported. The ship was freed by SMIT Marine tugs about four hours after the incident and proceeded to anchorage under its own power. A spokesman for the port authority said the ship "will not be traveling from Prince Rupert in its current state."
