(MORRISBURG, Ontario) — A chemical tanker that reportedly had a steering problem ran aground early Tuesday in the St. Lawrence Seaway, CBC News reported.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. said Chem Norma grounded at about 4:10 a.m., and by 9 a.m. an inspector had boarded the ship to assess is seaworthiness. The ship was not breached and no pollution was reported.
An agency spokesman said the ship reportedly had a "steering issue" before it hit bottom at the side of the navigation channel. Other ships were able to continue navigating the channel but were running at reduced speeds in that section of the Seaway.
