Cargo ship violated restricted-visibility rules in death of fisherman

(SANTA CRUZ, Calif.) —  The Coast Guard has ruled that a Bahamas-flagged cargo ship violated several navigation rules for restricted visibility when it struck and killed a fisherman off California, the Santa Cruz Sentinal newspaper reported. The 291-foot Eva Danielsen didn’t post a lookout, didn’t use fog signals and travelled at an unsafe speed, the investigative report said. The collision with the 28-foot wooden boat happened 6 nm off Point Reyes.
