Cargo ship Amity Ace runs aground in Brunswick River

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(BRUNSWICK, Ga.) — The Coast Guard is responding to a 653-foot cargo ship that ran aground in the Brunswick River approximately two-miles east of the Sidney Lanier Bridge Friday morning.
 
The Amity Ace, a Panamanian-flagged vehicle carrier, reportedly loss propulsion around 5 a.m. Firday while entering the Port of Brunswick just south of Brunswick Point. The ship’s pilot immediately contacted the Coast Guard after grounding on the north side of the channel. 
Two towing vessels are alongside to assist in re-floating the Amity Ace.  The Coast Guard is sending investigators to the vessel to determine the cause of the incident.
 
There have been no reports of pollution from the grounding.  The Amity Ace’s last port of call was Veracruz, Mexico.
