Canada’s shipbuilders hoping for economic stimulus windfall

(HALIFAX, Nova Scotia) — Canadian shipbuilders so far are disappointed with the government’s proposed spending on vessels, the Chronicle Herald newspaper reported. The shipyards are hoping a national shipbuilding summit will eventually result in a big investment in new military, coast guard, laker and ferry projects. A government initiative announced this week calls for relatively small projects including new rescue boats, work boats, environmental barges, liftboats and science and fisheries vessels.
