Ships Caught In Lake Superior Ice Field Dba53237b27c0613

(SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.) — Ice on Lake Superior this week has caused at least one freighter to head to port with hull damage, MLive.com reported. The self-unloading bulk carrier Kaye E. Barker, owned by Interlake Steamship Co., sustained a hull puncture and was scheduled to transfer its load of iron ore to fleet mate Lee A. Tregurtha. Kaye E. Barker is one of 10 ships the Coast Guard has been assisting through a large ice field separating Whitefish Bay from the rest of Lake Superior.
