(NATCHEZ, Miss.) — A towboat pushing 21 barges up the swollen Mississippi River struck a bridge pylon Sunday, causing the barges to break free, the Natchez Democrat reported. A U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said personnel from Vidalia Dock and Storage helped corral the vessels, which were then secured along the riverbank. The towboat that struck the bridge was reportedly Lindsay Ann Erickson, owned by Marquette Transportation.
