Barge traffic increases along Erie Canal (with AUDIO)

(OSWEGO, N.Y.) — After decades of being mostly used as a recreational waterway, New York's Erie Canal is experiencing a rebound in commercial activity, National Public Radio reported. Shipping from Canada is expected to lead to a level of commercial use that promises new life for the canal, which was cut through the state almost 200 years ago.
