The following is the text of a press release issued June 27 by the U.S. Coast Guard:
(HUNTINGTON, W.V.) — The Coast Guard closed a section of the Ohio River from mile marker 306.5 to 307.5 at approximately 3 p.m., today after a barge-mounted crane struck high tension power lines, causing them to be collapse.
The section of closed river is anticipated to be reopened tomorrow morning or as soon as the power lines are removed and repaired and the waterway is deemed safe for vessel transit.
A 25-foot smallboat and crew from the Marine Safety Unit in Huntington is on scene monitoring the safety zone in the area.
The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the incident.
