Barge damages fuel dock at world's largest pump station

(BELLE CHASSE, La.) — Two barges struck a gate at the world's largest drainage pump station, causing one barge to break free and damage concrete piles supporting a fuel dock, The Times-Picayune reported. M/V Pelican was pushing the barges through the West Closure Complex on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway on April 16 when the incident occurred. An engineering firm reported "significant" damage to the dock platform and minor damage to the floodgate.
