Barge carrying rock, sand runs aground off San Francisco

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(SAN FRANCISCO) — At approximately 7:30 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard recieved notification and responded to a grounded barge along San Francisco’s waterfront near the St. Francis Yacht club.
 
The Coast Guard was notified that the barge is carrying sand and rock. The Coast Guard Cutter Hawksbill, a 25-foot response boat, a MH-65 Helicopter, and a Coast Guard incident management team responded to the incident.
Coast Guard pollution investigators remain on scene and are coordinating with the responsible party and contractors to mitigate the threat of pollution. Double boom has been deployed around the vessel to contain any pollution.
The Coast Guard urges the public to report any pollution to the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802 or online at www.nrc.uscg.mil. The National Response Center is the federal point of contact for all oil and chemical spills.
