(ANN ARBOR, Mich) — American Waterways Operators, on behalf of the barge industry that uses the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal, responded to a lawsuit that attempts to force the federal government to close the canal locks, Michigan public radio reported. The state of Michigan is trying to keep the invasive Asian carp out of Lake Michigan. An AWO spokeswoman said, even if the canal closes, the carp could enter the Great Lakes from somewhere else.
