Audit: Canadian Coast Guard ill-prepared for major oil spill response

(OTTAWA) — The Canadian Coast Guard is not prepared to respond to a major offshore oil spill, the Ottawa Citizen newspaper reported. The agency doesn’t have adequate training, equipment or management systems, according to an internal audit. The auditors found that there is little national coordination of environmental-response management, leaving regional offices to determine their own policies that are not approved by national officials.
