Alaska moves forward with first deep-draft Arctic port

The Port of Nome is slated to become the nation’s first deep-draft Arctic port under a multiyear expansion project that supporters say will strengthen western Alaska’s maritime infrastructure, improve regional logistics and support growing commercial and government activity. The expansion comes as activity by Russia and China continues to grow in Arctic waters.
