A modern maritime service can deliver what the nation needs

Military Sealift Command (MSC) chartered ship motor tanker Badlands Trader positions alongside Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) during a fueling-at-sea while underway in the Philippine Sea on May 28. If the MSC’s Ready Reserve Force RRF and the 72 U.S.-flagged merchant ships enrolled in various security programs were reactivated right now, there would be an estimated shortage of some 1,800 qualified mariners to crew those vessels.
