American Steamship sues Hallett Dock and Fraser Shipyards

(DULUTH, Minn.) — American Steamship Co. is suing a Duluth dock and a Wisconsin shipyard over the 2007 sinking of the laker Walter J. McCarthy Jr., the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper reported. The defendants are Hallett Dock Co. and Fraser Shipyards Inc. American Steamship, which owns the McCarthy, claims the two companies were negligent when their representatives guided the “Big Mac” into a dock where an underwater concrete obstruction ripped into the hull.
