Tugboat leaks oil during scrap operation in California river

(PETALUMA, Calif.) — A tugboat being dismantled in a cove was the source of an oil slick in the Petaluma River, the Press Democrat newspaper of Santa Rosa, Calif., reported. A salvage crew was trying to break apart the old tug when the leak occurred. The spill, which consists of hundreds of gallons of heavy gear lube oil, caused state officials to ban fishing in the area.
