Florida’s St. Johns River ferry service suffers drop in ridership

(MAYPORT, Fla.) — The ferry service across the St. Johns River has experienced a startling drop in ridership, the Florida Times-Union newspaper reported. The Jacksonville Port Authority recently took over the ferry service after the city of Jacksonville could no longer afford to fund it. While ridership has declined, the commuter service between Mayport and Fort George Island has also reduced its budget deficit, however.
