Supervision Exercised:  Supervises subordinate professional, classified, and student personnel in the area of responsibility as assigned

General Statement of Duties: 
•Implement the Safety Management System aboard the vessel and ensure the safety of officers, crew, faculty, and cadets aboard.
•Conduct planned maintenance of the training vessel’s spaces including machinery as required.
•Supervise, train, and coordinate deck operations and assist with the pilotage, navigation, and safety of the vessel.
•Represent the training vessel’s Master as required in the Master’s absence.
•Assist in hiring, evaluation, and scheduling of the ship’s deck officers and crew.
•Supervise and record the ship’s maintenance program for cadets.
•Assist Chief Engineer in technical and mechanical equipment operations and planned maintenance.
•Participate in all movements of the training ship, such as transits to shipyards, sea trials, and sea terms.
•May assist in cadet instruction.
•All selected candidates must comply with Mass. Maritime Academy military customs, uniforms, and ranks and participate in random drug screening.
Required Qualifications:
•Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a recognized academic discipline.
•Hold valid USCG License as Chief Mate Oceans Unlimited with STCW endorsements
•Two (2) years of sea experience as Chief Mate, Master, Commanding Officer, or Executive Officer on ocean-going vessels or training vessels of approximate size or larger than the training vessel.
•Exhibit excellent computer, oral, and written communication skills.
•Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
•Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Hold valid USCG License – Master Oceans Unlimited with STCW endorsements
•Experience working with diverse populations is highly valued.
•Knowledge or experience in higher education
Salary: $95,000 to $100,000. The Academy offers generous benefits policies and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Academy is not sponsoring immigration visas at this time.  FLSA Status: Exempt
