AMC Search assists safety of navigation with the new Transas VTS simulator

July 2009 – VTS simulator at AMC Search has proved itself in action. From May 25 to June 6 AMC Search conducted a VTS Operator course on a recently commissioned Transas VTS simulator.
The course was led by internationally regarded VTS Instructor, Mr. Robert Shaw from Canada, and was strongly supported by the Sydney Ports Corporation. In addition to positive feedback on the course from participants, AMC Search was also delighted to receive the following comment from Mr. Shaw:  “I really hope that other ports will follow Sydney’s lead on this and take advantage of the wonderful training facility that AMC now has. The simulation set up at AMC out performs those that I am involved with elsewhere.”
The VTS simulator provides trainee operators with Radar, AIS, and four VHF frequencies for communication with traffic ships. The new facility has synchronized playback capability enabling visual observation of vessel traffic movement while reviewing voice communications between VTS operators and the vessel traffic in their area. AMC Search’s VTS Operator course has AMSA acceptance as meeting the IALA Guidelines V103/1. The VTS Supervisor course is currently being developed to comply with IALA Guidelines V103/2.
